Weekend 2 - Cork
This weekend I ventured into Cork for the first time. Two carloads of people were awake and willing to go explore some of the food markets in Cork. The first of which was Marina Market which was a collection of food vendors and food trucks. Not so dissimilar to Time Out Market, a reference for my Boston girlies.
We then walked about a mile towards the city center to check out the English Market. This was a covered market very similar to Borough market in London. Fish, produce, spices, butchers, cheesemongers, wine merchants, all selling side by side. It was very cool to poke around especially with a group of people who self-selected to go to culinary school. I personally purchased three different hot sauces and took zero pictures.
We worked up an appetite looking at food so we headed for Izz Cafe for really good Palestinian food. At this point it started Downpouring with a capital D and we still had a mile to make it back to where are car was parked. By the time we got there, you would not have been able to tell if I had just jumped in a pool fully clothed. I couldn’t stop laughing at how dumb we were out and about without umbrellas or rain jackets.
I ate leftovers of this hummus for dinner two nights in a row and it continued to hit
Cork seems really cool and charming in the way all old European cities are. I hope I get the chance to explore it more while I’m here. Any and all recommendations are welcome.
The rest of the weekend was very low key, thankfully. I ran, did laundry, organized all of our recipes and notes. These weeks are nonstop so it is really nice to have some uninterrupted chill time on the weekends, even if I feel vaguely guilty for not taking advantage of every Irish second I have here!
